Carmo Soá was born in 1962 in Niterói, state of Rio de Janeiro. Carmo began his art studies when he was 12 years old taking drawing classes at the Escola Fluminense de Belas Artes. In 1974,he joined the Brazilian Society of Fine Arts and three years later began taking sculpture classes with Haroldo Barroso at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro.
In the National Art Museum, Carmo undertook the course “Theory of Inexistent Colors”, taught by Israel Pedrosa, as well as “20th Century Art – from Modernism to Post-Modernism” taught by Frederico de Moraes. From 1979 to 1982 Carmo Soá taught drawing classes at the Music Conservatory of Niterói.
“The images emerge from abstract spots like a dream, or better yet, like a plasma of the imagination. Merging reality with imagination, the artist offers a picture of the modern life, which does not lack existential expressions of doubts, as in his canvas ‘Sin of the World’, or questions of religious base, as in the painting ‘World without sins’. Showing images from our metropolitan life, Carmo Soá dedicates special attention to the feminine universe, of which he seeks to paint the intimacy, the fear of love, the repression and also the informality.”

Carmo Soa's realistic portraits are available by commission. His hand-made wooden frames add texture and elegance to his impressionistic paintings. These frames are unique to Carmo's work and are not available to other artists.
