Cesar Nahoun lives with his wife Eliane in Niterói, across the bridge from the city of Rio de Janeiro. He is a successful urologist who discovered his passion for painting in his fifties when he wanted to give his wife her portrait for her birthday. He walked into an art supply store and asked what materials he needed to start painting. He left with one canvas, paint brushes and his acrylic paints.
He has not sopped painting since that day. Eliane walked us through their beautiful modern house filled with Nahoun’s canvases. He even paints the floors, steps, doors and windows transforming his surroundings into a world of his own.
We were warmly received by his family and astonished by the artwork we saw. There are many portraits of his wife, which highlight his love and dedication to her. There are paintings of animals, he loves horses. And most intriguingly, there are some very unique works that reflect a modern take on religion and the strong influences it exerts on the Catholic Brazilian society.
